Adventures in Skirt Making

My girl has a theory on what defines a princess--a skirt! If she has on a skirt she is a "princess" and if she does not have on a skirt she is "Lily." When we ask her if she is a princess she always checks to see what she is wearing before she answers. She takes this stuff seriously!

I found a great tutorial on how to make this Market Skirt here. This is the first time that I have attempted to sew any kind of clothes and I am really happy with it. Here are a few things that I learned:

#1. Read the entire tutorial before jumping in.
#2. Your sewing machine manual is a great resource and should be read. (I've had mine for over 10 years and just began using it last night.)
#3. I NEED a serger! I'm actually in a negotiation with a lady on Craig's List as we speak.

Here's my little "princess" showing off her new skirt.

And because everything looks better in Instagram Pictures:

We ended the night by walking to the park to watch the fireworks.
We had such a great day and plan to make this an annual event!

Progress...

I'm still working on the mudroom, but there is progress!

It's late so these pictures aren't great, but I wanted to share.

Hopefully I'll be back to share the completed project tomorrow.

I'm not an outside kind of girl!

I don't like bugs...

I do like air conditioning.

But this week I braved the elements and took on the huge job of cleaning all the dust, pollen, mildew crap off of our house and fence. I mean, y'all, it was black and green.

The job involved a ladder...

and bleach...

lots and lots of bleach.

 Not even the toys escaped!

Now we are ready to celebrate the 4th!
